I. Potty Training A. Be Consistent, Loving, & Patient. B. Take your puppy to the potty: (1) First thing in the morning ; (2) Right after meals ; (3) Right after naps ; (4) Immediately upon returning home after leaving your puppy alone ; (5) Just before bedtime ; (6) Anytime your puppy shows signs of being anxious, circling, sitting at the door.... C. Accidents will happen, so please : (1) DO NOT SPANK THE BABY!!! (2) DO NOT SCOLD or RAISE YOUR VOICE ANGRILY!!! (3) DO NOT RUB YOUR PUPPYS NOSE IN IT!!! (4) If you "catch your puppy in the act" , simply and firmly, Say NO, and take your puppy to the "potty" and when finished lavish and praise, attention and treats on the baby. (5) REMEMBER , your puppy is still a baby and their attention span is too short to connect a reprimand with the mess. II. Cleaning Up The Mess : A. Good (cheap) spot cleaner : 1qt water, 1 qt white vinegar, 10 to 15 drops clean dishwashing liquid. Spray it on stain and wipe it around with a plain paper towel. Spray some more on the stain and cover it with a clean paper towel and weight it down for a while - 45mins to and hour then vacuum it good - Really works great !! Note : Do NOT use ammonia based cleaners B. Barricade the spot until it's dry. III. Don't allow your puppy complete unsupervised freedom As they can and will get into all kinds of stuff when left by themselves. Keep your puppy in its crate unless you can devote all your attention to it until training is complete. IV.REMEMBER : CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY !!! If it's good today, it should be good from now on just the same as if it's not good today it won't be good in the future. Your new puppy thrives on love, affection and tenderness, and will be very anxious to please you in the same manner a child who is raised properly. Your puppy will feel secure in its crate, so please don't use confinement in the crate as a means of punishment. V. Ask us or your vetrinarian about additional training. VI. Ask us about choosing a Male Vs. Female VII. Ask us About Micro-chip Identification VIII. We feed Nutro-Max feed to our adults and puppies and it is available at most pet stores. IX. We give our puppies Nu-Vet plus vitamins daily, and this allows us to provide a Two year "Guarantee of Good Health". We will send a 3 day supply with your new puppy. X. Our puppies are intended to be for pets only, and, unless we agree otherwise in writing, must be spayed/neutered prior to attaining the age of six (6) months. Please do not hesitate to ask us about this. XI. Our kennel is small and, accordingly , we handle each or our dogs daily to let them know they are loved and appreciated. This also enhances the "socialization" & "group therapy" endeavors when "play-time" comes. XII. Our puppies are not delivered prior to 8 weeks of age, and then only if we believe they are socially and physically "ready" to leave our family and become part or yours. XIII. At Hollow Tree Kennel , we are firmly committed to placing our puppies in the "Right" homes, and it is our practice to follow up on the baby's welfare etc..., via phone, email, and/or letters. It is very important to us that the new puppy is doing and adapting well , and that everyone in the home is doing well with the "new-one". We invite you to become part of our "Extended Family" and look forward to many years of sharing happiness with you and your family. |
